Whatcom Republicans Invite Grassroots Activists To Attend Feb. 13 Precinct Caucuses
Republicans Unite to Discuss and Debate Issues in Critical 2010 Election Year
Bellingham, WA – Luanne Van Werven, Chairman, released the following statement today about the County GOP’s upcoming precinct caucuses to be held February 13:
“We are excited to invite grassroots activists, new and old, to attend our upcoming precinct caucuses. Unlike the Democrats, who are not holding precinct caucuses, Republicans value the input of grassroots activists. We want them to help craft our party’s platform heading into the crucial mid-term elections of 2010. In even-numbered years, our activists have the opportunity to come together at locations across Whatcom County to discuss and debate the pressing issues facing our local communities, state, and country. The precinct caucuses are the first step towards turning all of the grassroots energy we’ve seen in the past year into effective political action. The GOP is set to make significant gains at all levels in the crucial 2010 elections. And we’ll do it from the bottom-up.”
State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser issued the following statement praising the County Party’s efforts:
“The activists and leadership of the Whatcom Republicans are more energized than ever before. Our dedicated activists are gearing up to make significant gains for the Party and our candidates in 2010. These precinct caucuses are a time for discussion and debate, as are the upcoming county conventions that lead up to our State Convention. Together, as one united Grand Old Party, we will deliver a decisive victory for our candidates – and return common sense conservative principles back to our government. This is the year we take our state and our country back!”
At the precinct caucuses, delegates are elected to county conventions. From there, each county elects delegates to our State Convention, where the State Party’s platform is drafted for 2010. This year, the State Convention will be held in Vancouver, WA June 10-12, with two special guest speakers: former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be the keynote speaker and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin will be the banquet speaker. The State Convention agenda will be forthcoming and posted online at: www.wsrp.org.
