Former Washington State senator has just been appointed by President Donald J. Trump to be the next Director of the U.S. Selective Service System. Director Benton will report directly to the President of the United States.
Senator Benton’s reaction: “I am deeply honored and humbled to be chosen. I look forward to serving the President and the American people in this important assignment.”
Mr. Benton served in the Washington State Legislature for 20 years, from 1997 to 2017. He also served one term in the Washington State House of Representatives.
Local Republicans should be well acquainted with Senator Benton, as he was the keynote speaker at the sold-out Whatcom County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner 2017, held last Saturday, April 8.
The director states that this appointment is direct from the President now and will not need confirmation.
